Most record labels are a collection of different artists telling different stories. Maple Harbor Records is different. We believe that a truly great composition is a living thing—an idea that can inhabit multiple emotional worlds without losing its soul.
Our label functions as an Interpretive Ecosystem. We begin with a single melodic "blueprint" and reimagine it across a multiverse of genres. From the raw, acoustic honesty of a folk song to the sweeping grandeur of a cinematic score or the high-energy grit of pop-punk, we explore how a change in arrangement can completely transform the meaning of a story.
Every project at Maple Harbor begins at the "Source." Our founder and primary composer, Jon Shields, writes the core compositions in their most fundamental form—usually a voice, a guitar, and a lyric. These are the "Blueprints." These are also stand-alone recordings in themselves. Everything you hear from North of Alder and Jon Shields has no AI involvement whatsoever.
From there, we enter the Porting Phase. Using a sophisticated hybrid workflow that combines traditional DAW mastery with cutting-edge generative tools, we translate those human blueprints into new sonic landscapes. We don’t just "remix" tracks; we rebuild them from the ground up to ensure that whether you are listening to a Lo-Fi beat or a Big Band arrangement, the emotional integrity of the original song remains intact.
Maple Harbor Records is the creative home of Nashville-based composer and producer Jon Shields. With a background in music business and a lifelong obsession with the intersection of genre and emotion, Jon created Maple Harbor Records to challenge the idea that a songwriter has to pick a single "sound."
By treating the song as the primary "artist," Jon has built a catalog that allows listeners to choose the lens through which they experience the music.
Maple Harbor is designed for the curious listener. We encourage you to find a melody you love and then follow it through the "multiverse":
Start at the Source: Listen to the original songwriting under North of Alder or Jon Shields.
Shift the Lens: Hear that same story reimagined through our specialized artists like The J.W. Philharmonic (Orchestral), flannelshirt (Lo-Fi), or Midwest Fragments (Pop-Punk).
Compare the Perspectives: Discover how the same lyrics can feel like a confession in one genre and a celebration in another.
Welcome to the Harbor. Choose your world.
